POSITION VACANT: Traineeship/Intern -
Johannesburg (1 week assignment)
Colleen Kelly is a
world-leader in rider balance, lecturing for Equestrian Australia, USEF,
Dressage Canada, the NZ Equestrian Federation and the world's largest
events: Equitana, Equine Affaire and Horse World Expo.
2010 has seen her with the world's most prestigious honours: being
invited to speak at the WORLD EQUESTRIAN GAMES, and her program being
officially recognised by the USDF UNIVERSITIY PROGRAM.
Colleen is coming to South Africa for a repeat second tour to Capetown
Durban and Johannesburg.
This internship, FOR ONE WEEK ONLY 20th to 26th July, 2010 (plus one
evening Fri 23rd July), is a remarkable once-in-a-lifetime opportunity
to work with Colleen 'behind the scenes' and in the arena.
You would need to be a good rider (altough riding during that week is
not necessary) with a view to becoming an Official Coach.
Applicants would need to be very well presented, very punctual, and well
spoken with an outgoing fun personality with a GREAT sense of humour to
handle difficult and stressful situations if they arise.
Duties will involve ensuring waivers are signed and completed for all
riders, making sure riders are preparing for the next lesson on time,
bringing riders into the arena, and keeping Colleen running to the
strict time schedule at the Lipizzaner Indoor Hall.
The remainder of the time is spent sitting with Colleen as she teaches
all levels of riders in all horse sports. You would also have to be very
'horsie' and 'go with the flow' in terms of little things like the odd
'messy horse job' such as picking up manure at the lesson if the rider
doesn't have a groom with them (but that is rare).
Applicants would need to be relatively local to the Lipizzaner Indoor at
Kyalami, and would definately need a reliable car and mobile phone.
----------------------------------------------------------------
REMUNERATION value ZAR 5316 for one week's work
----------------------------------------------------------------
As this is a trainee position, a cash salary will not be paid, however
to spectate for 7 days would normally be R1050 and attendance at the
gala evening fundraiser for the Lipizzaners of South Africa another
R200.
In addition, the trainee at the end of the week will be provided with
all the course materials for the International Society of Rider
Biomechanics Teacher Training Course (value R4066) and listing as an
Affiliate with the Society. It would also include all assessments and
examination to become an Official Coach with the Society.

SPECIAL EVENT - free of charge for applicant as they would be assisting

Friday 23rd July, 2010. EVENING LECTURE/WORKSHOP: “How to Analyse &
Improve the Horse Rider's Seat, Posture & Balance”.
VENUE: 1 Dahlia Road, Kyalami (Johannesburg). .
This ridden lecture/demonstration with world leader Colleen Kelly will
go through, in great detail, the rider's seat, posture & balance for all
horse riding sports. Learn what to look for. Help with judging the
rider's position, and learn what makes horses go crooked on centrelines
and over jumps. How to improve "on the forehand", just by slight changes
in the rider's position. Find out why horses fall in, from the
beginner's circle and around the "short option" jumping, right up to
pirouettes - and how little change is needed from the rider's posture to
instantly make huge differences. Find out why horses rush for some
riders and go slow for others. Improvement for sitting trot, moving
hands and legs, extension & collection and engagement and on the
forehand.
This demonstration is similar to those given at the world's largest
events such as Equitana, Equine Affaire etc., but right on your doorstep
in Johannesburg. One quote from the USEF Conference "I learned more in
2.5 hours than I have in years!". And that was from a USEF
representative!
Although Grand Prix and "A" grade jumping principals will be addressed,
it will also be a GREAT fun evening for young riders - no matter what
the age!
Ideal for all horse sports: dressage - jumping - pony club - western.

I
am having to sell my farm and hence my horses. I have some photos of one
that I thought you might know somebody who might be interested.
She is a warmblood filly. She is 4years old and stands about 15.3-16
at this stage. I think she will make 16.2 or above. Mother was 16.2,
Waldemar is about 17.00 hh I think. Chestnut by Waldemar, mothers side
by Sebastian and as you can see from the pictures, pretty plain
coloured, small blaze on forehead plus some small white socks. She is
very laid back and easy to handle, good temperament. This is not a
delicate fairy, big head and joints. She moves really well and is
amazingly balanced with for such a big girl. She puts my smaller horses
to shame. She has that loose relaxed way of moving and is very
comfortable. I thought that she would probably be right for dressage and
have never jumped her, but Waldemar is quite a good jumper.
The one fault she does have is that she does toe in a bit. Other
than that no other problems, illnesses or vices.
She is at this stage only just backed and needing a lot more work to
make her. I think she is quite a special horse, would keep her for
myself, but am not sure where I'll be. I have others for sale including
foals, so if anybody is interested ?
